Abstract
Elbachir Lesioud’s book Building the Human Being between Philosophy and Gnosis presents an intellectual project that seeks to reconcile reason and emotion, philosophy and spiritual gnosis, in order to construct a balanced human being grounded in both rational knowledge and spiritual refinement. The author considers philosophy as the highest form of intellectual reflection and love of wisdom, while gnosis represents the inner, emotional, and spiritual dimension that elevates the human soul beyond material existence toward faith and inner purity. Through profound readings of Ibn Arabi, Al-Hallaj, Henry Corbin, and Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, the book explores concepts such as imagination, creativity, beauty, politics, sainthood, spiritual excellence, and religious tourism. It argues that true Sufism is not isolation from life, but rather a civilizational and ethical project that contributes to the reform of both the individual and society. The book ultimately calls for renewing gnostic thought and linking it to freedom, justice, and human flourishing, making the Muslim individual spiritually rooted and historically active.
