Abstract

The research sought to explore the mediating role of economic security in the conflict between family requirements and professional duties among teachers in Yemen. A qualitative research methodology was followed in collecting and analyzing data using semi-structured interviews with a cross-sectional sample of (133) male and female teachers who were randomly selected, not systematically, from several Yemeni regions, and the study showed that the difficult economic conditions in Yemen caused an increase in teachers’ feelings of economic insecurity, and that irregular salaries greatly affected their ability to meet the needs and requirements of their families, and that the psychological pressure resulting from their feeling of economic insecurity negatively affected their ability to fulfill Job duties. It has also been shown that economic insecurity plays a mediating role in exacerbating the conflict between family requirements and professional duties among these teachers. The research concluded by proposing institutional and community support mechanisms to enhance teachers in Yemen’s sense of economic security, thus contributing to alleviating the severity of the impact of work-family conflict on them.
