Abstract
The authors of this remarkable achievement aim to assess the historical dimension of the Holy Quran, first presenting the general context of revelation, then offering a surat by surat, verse by verse reading/translation/interpretation ; the classical (in terms of classical European thought) distinction between (historical – geographical) fact and matter of faith should make away with any concern that Islamic faith will be endangered by this enterprise ; nor has been Christianity imperiled by historical research on the Holy Scriptures.
